Soludo and Peter Obi political and personal dispute

Overview

A dispute emerged regarding the personal relationship between Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and former governor Peter Obi. In late September, First Lady Dr. Nonye Soludo issued a clarification denying claims made by Obi that he and his wife were godparents to the Soludo children. Her office described the claim as false, noting that while specific baptismal godparent roles exist between the families, the broader designation Obi used was inaccurate.

By mid-October, Governor Soludo addressed the friction, describing Obi as a ‘friend and brother’ and asserting that their differences are limited to political ideology and strategy rather than personal animosity. This conciliatory stance followed a ‘betrayal alert’ from the Anambra State Government accusing Obi of undermining the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), as well as Soludo’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
