Somali regional security and arms control measures
Overview
Somali regional authorities have implemented several security measures to control weapons and military movements. In the North Western State, officials prohibited armed mobilization and the public carrying of weapons in the Awdal and Selel regions to prevent unrest following community clashes. Alongside these restrictions, the Somali National Army issued a directive to prevent and investigate violence against women during armed conflicts.
In the Northeastern Regional State, security authorities expanded oversight by requiring airlines to obtain formal authorization from the Ministry of Security before transporting weapons or military personnel. This directive mandates that applications for moving authorized weapons be submitted at least three days in advance, as the administration works to consolidate institutions in areas such as Las Anod.
