Somalia bilateral and regional diplomatic engagements
Overview
Somalia has engaged in several diplomatic efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and regional security. In mid-September, Mogadishu and Djibouti City signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, culture, and economic development.
During the same period, Somali immigration authorities met with the African Union’s Counter-Terrorism Centre to discuss border security, migration management, and information sharing to monitor terrorist movements. Somalia noted its use of digital systems to improve data management during operations against Al-Shabaab.
In early October, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with Libyan Presidential Council President Mohamed al-Menfi in Egypt. The leaders discussed increasing coordination across various sectors and addressed security and stability challenges in the Horn of Africa. The meeting also involved mutual support for political processes, with discussions touching on Somalia’s sovereignty and Libya’s pursuit of a unified political framework.
