Sorocaba municipal cultural, environmental and sports events

The City of Sorocaba has announced municipal initiatives focused on cultural preservation, environmental resilience, and sports.

From October 13 to 15, the Sorocaba Railway Museum (MEFS) will host the ‘Outubro no Museu’ program, featuring workshops, film screenings, and activities intended to connect the public with the city’s railway heritage through cultural mediation. Additionally, a skate exhibition and workshops titled ‘Do Asfalto ao Pódio’ are scheduled to take place at Pátio Cianê Shopping through late October. A parade honoring Brigadeiro Rafael Tobias de Aguiar is also set for October 18, involving various civil and military institutions.

In the sporting sector, the 2026 Sorocaba School Games (JES) will hold matches for the Mirim category from October 13 to 16. The competition involves 50 schools and includes disciplines such as athletics, basketball, and futsal.

Public health initiatives have been expanded through the ‘Outubro Rosa’ campaign, which provides services such as Pap smear collections at various Basic Health Units (UBSs) to promote breast and cervical cancer prevention.

Regarding environmental planning, the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment, Protection, and Animal Welfare (Sema) is scheduled to hold the 1st Municipal Workshop on Nature-Based Solutions (SbN) on November 4 and 5 at the Irmãos Villas-Bôas Botanical Garden. This workshop aims to train professionals in ‘Sponge City’ concepts, such as permeable sidewalks and rain gardens, to mitigate flooding and support the development of the North and South Park System along the Sorocaba River.
