South American airline route expansions

Overview

South American airlines are expanding direct international routes for the 2026–2027 summer season to increase regional connectivity.

In Brazil, new services will connect Salvador to Santiago, Chile. Latam Airlines is scheduled to launch this route on January 3, 2027, with three weekly frequencies, while SKY Airline will resume service between the two cities on December 28, 2026, with two weekly flights. Latam notes this new route aims to reduce travel time by approximately three hours compared to connections through São Paulo.

Other regional expansions include Gol Linhas Aéreas launching a seasonal route between Asunción, Paraguay, and Florianópolis, Brazil, from January 5 to February 14, 2027. Additionally, Latam Airlines plans to launch a direct service between Asunción and Montevideo, Uruguay, in the first quarter of 2027, operating five times per week. This move is part of a strategy to increase Latam’s total weekly frequencies in Paraguay from 26 to 37 by 2027.
