South American school environmental education

Overview

In late July 2026, municipal programs in Paraná, Argentina, and Guayaquil, Ecuador, organized hands‑on activities for students. In Argentina, native trees were planted at Escuela Soler to teach flood mitigation and urban cooling, while in Ecuador more than 100 pupils attended an environmental fair in the Cerro Paraíso protected forest, learning about local species and conservation.

A few days later, a free workshop in Asunción, Paraguay, combined environmental messages with cultural preservation. Children and teenagers used art, theatre and storytelling in Guaraní to raise awareness of nature protection and pledged to share the lessons with their families.

Together, these events illustrate a regional push to embed environmental education in schools across South America, linking biodiversity awareness, native‑species planting, and cultural identity to foster sustainable practices among youth.
