South Korean AI and industry training initiatives

South Korean educational and municipal institutions are implementing various programs focused on artificial intelligence and specialized industry training.

In the academic sector, Baekseok University and Prewillin are collaborating to develop AI-driven Korean language learning tools and textbooks using Computerized Adaptive Testing. Additionally, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Jeju National University, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies have partnered to create a ‘learncation’ model that combines tourism with language and AI-based regional innovation.

Vocational and specialized training is also expanding through industry-academic partnerships. Gongju Meister High School conducted a joint curriculum program with the Korea University of Technology and Education, providing first-year students with practical instruction in generative AI, no-code applications, power facility management, PLC programming, and industrial robot operation. In the eSports sector, Dongyang University’s eSports department collaborated with Gen.G to implement intensive field-based training during summer breaks, utilizing a ‘four-semester per year’ system to align academic theory with professional industry requirements.

At the local government level, municipalities are conducting professional development sessions. Officials in Icheon have engaged in semiconductor industry training, including visits to SK hynix to study manufacturing and High Bandwidth Memory technology. Meanwhile, practitioners in Gwacheon have held workshops on integrating generative AI into administrative workflows and lifelong learning processes.
