South Korean port safety management advancements

South Korean port authorities and maritime entities are receiving recognition for advancements in safety management and standardized mooring operations.

The Busan Port Authority (BPA) reached the finals of the 2026 International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) World Ports Sustainability Program awards in the Health, Safety, and Security category. Their project, ‘Busan Port Mooring Operation Standardization’, established a safety manual and training facilities that have since been integrated into national government port safety measures.

In a separate development, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries held its inaugural ‘Safety Management Best Practice Contest’. Incheon Inner Harbor Pier Operation Co., Ltd. was awarded the Grand Prize for implementing a proactive, worker-participatory prevention system that allows employees to identify and report hazards. Other award recipients included Hansol Logistics Gunsan Branch, Dongbang Ulsan Branch, and HMM PSA Shin Hangman Co., Ltd., for their respective improvements in work environments and monitoring systems.
