South Korean regional development funding requests

Local government leaders and officials in South Korea are actively seeking national budget allocations to fund various regional development and infrastructure projects.

In early September, leaders from Damyang and Hampyeong counties met with the National Assembly and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Damyang officials advocated for the Dalbit Railway construction, a project estimated at 4.5158 trillion won, alongside sewage improvements and tourism infrastructure. Hampyeong officials requested funding for a Hanwoo genetic resource center, a traffic safety education center, and the expansion of the Bitgreen National Industrial Complex to support semiconductor and vehicle industries.

By mid-September, Busan Metropolitan City held consultative meetings with lawmaker Han Dong-hoon to discuss securing national treasury funds. Busan requested support for several major initiatives, including the relocation of public institutions, the opening of Gadeokdo New Airport, and the development of an AI-driven smart city. Han Dong-hoon, a member of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, pledged to cooperate across party lines to facilitate these budget allocations.
