South Papua regional development and infrastructure

Overview

The South Papua provincial government is pursuing various infrastructure and development initiatives to support its status as a new autonomous region.

In Merauke, the construction of the Papua Selatan Majelis Rakyat Papua (MRP) building is set to proceed following the resolution of legal disputes regarding a previous contractor. Additionally, the province is accelerating road projects, such as a 9-kilometer stretch between SP 9 Tanah Miring and Salor, to improve connectivity between Merauke and the provincial government center.

To support food security and agricultural productivity, the provincial government has also proposed the construction of 500 housing units for agricultural extension workers. Vice Governor Paskalis Imadawa noted that providing these facilities is essential for workers to operate effectively across the region’s challenging geography.
