Southeast Asian narcotics law enforcement operations

Overview

Law enforcement agencies in Malaysia and Indonesia have conducted significant raids targeting drug production and distribution. In Johor Bahru, Malaysia, police dismantled a drug processing syndicate following raids in the Masai and Jalan Permas areas. The operation resulted in the seizure of narcotics valued at approximately RM18.19 million, including MDMA powder and liquid, cannabis liquid, and ecstasy. Three local individuals, aged between 17 and 22, were arrested. Authorities discovered an illegal laboratory and confiscated processing equipment, noting the seized substances had the potential to harm roughly 426,000 individuals.

In Indonesia, large scale operations have targeted both urban centers and transit routes. On November 1, 2026, approximately 1,800 personnel from the Indonesian National Police, the National Narcotics Agency, and Brimob conducted a massive raid in the Kampung Bahari area of North Jakarta. Officers used a special KAI Commuter train on the Jakarta Kota-Tanjung Priok route to access difficult terrain near railway tracks. Authorities reported seizing hundreds of grams of crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, and thousands of ecstasy pills, as well as an ecstasy pill-making machine, firearms, and sharp weapons. Between 26 and 29 individuals were detained. Lawmakers from Commission III of the DPR have urged police to expand investigations to dismantle larger supply networks and financial structures.

Additionally, Bengkalis Police reported a major crackdown between October 19 and November 2, 2026, seizing 10.14 kilograms of crystal meth and other substances valued at approximately Rp10.5 billion. In one instance in Bantan District, nearly 9 kilograms of crystal meth were found in a backpack. Authorities suspect the shipment is linked to a transnational network operating between Malaysia and Riau, allegedly controlled by a fugitive identified as M. Fifty suspects were arrested during this period.
