Southern African energy sector local capacity development
Overview
In late September 2026, initiatives were launched in Namibia and Mozambique to bolster local capacity within their respective energy sectors.
In Namibia, Saipem and the Petroleum Training and Education Fund (Petrofund) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance workforce development in the upstream oil and gas sector. The partnership focuses on knowledge transfer, internships, and technical training to prepare Namibian professionals for the expanding energy industry.
In Mozambique, Clube de Petróleo and the Institute for the Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (IPEME) entered a cooperation agreement to prepare local SMEs for the energy sector. This initiative aims to help domestic companies meet the certification and quality standards necessary to compete for contracts in major developments, such as those in the Rovuma Basin, across sectors including logistics, engineering, and construction.
