Soybean variety developments in Argentina

Overview

The Argentine agricultural sector is seeing new developments in soybean varieties. The ACA Neogen alliance, a partnership between Asociación de Cooperativas Argentinas and Neogen, has launched a proposal of soybean varieties for the upcoming campaign, focusing on regionalized seeds to maximize yields amid expected changes in water availability.

Concurrently, the Argentine Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (SAGYP) has authorized the commercialization of a new genetically modified soybean variety developed by Syngenta. This variety offers tolerance to four types of herbicides: glyphosate, glufosinate ammonium, 2,4-D, and HPPD enzyme inhibitors. Regulatory assessments by Conabia and Senasa concluded the variety presents no increased risks and is as safe for consumption as conventional soybeans.
