SpaceX Transporter-18 satellite mission deployments

Overview

On October 1, 2026, SpaceX’s Transporter-18 mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base successfully deployed several satellite missions involving various international partners.

Among these was a strategic collaboration between Rheinmetall and Argotec to launch a reconnaissance satellite focused on military air defense. Unlike traditional mapping satellites, this system uses artificial intelligence to identify ground-based indicators of emerging aerial threats, such as missiles or drones, to provide earlier warning than ground-based radar. This project, led by Rheinmetall Italia, aims to establish a full constellation, with a second satellite planned for 2028.

Other successful deployments included the Italian IRIDE program’s Eaglet II constellation for environmental and maritime monitoring, Sateliot’s Draconis mission for 5G-based Internet of Things connectivity, and the German ATHENE-1 research platform for satellite communication and navigation.
