Spain local road safety upgrades

In late July 2026, Spanish municipalities continued a wave of local infrastructure upgrades aimed at road safety and pedestrian accessibility. Building on earlier works in Cortiñán, Santiago de Alcántara, Ribadesella and Constantí, a series of projects were completed on 31 July.

In Tíjola, the Parque‑Paseo Virgen del Socorro received a €2.8 million EU‑FEDER‑funded regeneration, adding native planting, a storm‑water tank, a solar pergola and pedestrian‑friendly surfaces. Constantí’s sidewalk refurbishment was finalized, delivering 5,000 m² of new paving, 1.8 m wide walkways and improved tree placement to meet accessibility standards, echoing its earlier €342,700 upgrade. Ribadesella’s La Cuesta road saw €80,000 of anti‑slip surfacing, blue pedestrian lanes and foot‑traffic markings, consistent with its prior safety work.

Estepona completed a €2.95 million remodel of Avenida Mirador de Cancelada, introducing new pavement, upgraded utilities, tree planting and a one‑way traffic scheme. Torremolinos launched a circular pedestrian route linking the Ermita de San Miguel with the town centre under the “Torremolinos Verde y Resiliente” plan. In Rute, a €29 000 metal fence replaced the interior fence of the CEIP Fuente del Moral school to improve safety.
