Spain pharmacy regulatory reforms

In late July 2026, Spain’s pharmacy profession and nuclear safety authorities formalised a collaboration to improve the safety of radiopharmaceuticals. The agreement between the Consejo General de Colegios Farmacéuticos and the Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear set out joint training, public‑information campaigns and procedures for the handling and disposal of radioactive medicines, positioning community pharmacists as key agents in radiopharmacy safety.

A week later, the government issued a new real decree that modernises the verification of medicines across all pharmacies. The decree introduces a more digital, traceable dispensing system, eliminates the long‑standing “coupon seal” on certain drugs, and aims to reduce manual workload while preserving patient safety. Together, the two measures illustrate a broader push in Spain to tighten pharmaceutical safety standards and streamline pharmacy operations through coordinated oversight and digital reform.
