Spain quantum technology infrastructure development

Spain is expanding its quantum technology capabilities through new research alliances and significant infrastructure investments. The Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragon (INMA) has partnered with Keysight Technologies to develop advanced instrumentation and measurement tools intended to move quantum research from laboratories into practical applications.

Simultaneously, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) has inaugurated a major Quantum Nanofabrication Area at the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM). Funded by over 6 million euros via the PERTE Chip program and the Complementary Plan for Quantum Communications, this facility is described as the largest research infrastructure of its kind in Spain. It utilizes advanced nanolithography and metrology equipment to manufacture and characterize quantum chips and circuits.

To further consolidate these efforts, the CSIC announced the creation of the QuARC-CSIC (Quantum Advanced Research Centre) to centralize quantum talent and research, aiming to strengthen the nation’s semiconductor and quantum technology sectors.
