Spain regional subsidies for SMEs

In early July 2026 Madrid’s City Council introduced a €2 million grant scheme aimed at self‑employed workers, offering three types of aid ranging from €2 500 start‑up grants to €10 000 generational‑relief grants and €5 000 employment‑creation grants. The programme targets 200‑400 beneficiaries out of more than 209 000 self‑employed residents.

Later that month, several Spanish regions announced complementary subsidy programmes to boost the competitiveness of micro‑enterprises and small firms. Galicia’s Bono Autónomo scheme funded upgrades for over 5 000 self‑employed businesses. Castilla y León opened a €5 million export grant call for SMEs, while Andalusia launched a €108 million job‑creation and training initiative. Madrid also activated a €1.8 million digitalisation line, providing up to €40 000 per firm for software, AI, and cybersecurity. Together, these measures expand the scope of public support from a single city‑level grant to a coordinated, multi‑regional effort to modernise, digitalise, and internationalise Spain’s small‑business sector.
