Overview

Local and national authorities in Spain are expanding infrastructure to support sustainable mobility and electric vehicle (EV) usage.

At the municipal level, Orihuela announced plans to repair and upgrade 19 existing EV charging points following a technical audit. In Almería, the government is developing a large motorhome parking area near Parque Periurbano del Andarax, equipped with water, electricity, and waste-water facilities to accommodate growing tourism.

On a national scale, Adif and Adif Alta Velocidad have initiated the second phase of an EV charging network expansion within railway parking facilities. This phase adds 96 operational charging spots across nine stations, including Cuenca Fernando Zóbel, bringing the national total to 350 points across 30 stations. This expansion is part of a larger initiative, supported by over 18.2 million euros in EU NextGenerationEU recovery funds, which aims to deploy approximately 900 charging points at more than 60 stations by 2027.
