Spanish judicial efforts regarding Franco-era repression

Overview

Legal and judicial efforts continue in Spain to address human rights violations and provide formal recognition for victims of the Franco dictatorship.

In one instance, the Spanish Government officially annulled the death sentence of Xosé Humberto Baena Alonso, an anti-fascist activist executed in 1975. His family had long contested the legitimacy of his arrest and the judicial process that led to his execution.
