Spanish military infrastructure modernization

Overview

Spain is undertaking several military infrastructure modernization projects. In Albacete, the Maestranza Aérea has contracted work to upgrade security and communication systems, including the installation of fiber optics and electrical backup systems.

In Zamora, the Army is advancing the Monte la Reina project. This large-scale development focuses on technological efficiency and environmental sustainability through the use of geothermal heating, photovoltaic infrastructure, and advanced water management. Defense Minister Margarita Robles recently inspected the construction site in Toro, noting that the facility, which spans over 1,235 hectares, is expected to be operationally complete by 2027. The project is projected to bring approximately 1,400 military personnel and their families to the region, providing an economic and demographic boost to the province.
