Spanish municipal beach safety enhancements
Overview
Spanish municipalities are implementing various measures to enhance beach safety and emergency response capabilities during the summer season.
In Valencia, local authorities conducted a rescue drill at El Cabanyal beach to test emergency coordination. The exercise, coordinated by Cruz Roja, simulated the rescue of swimmers and involved multiple units including jet-skis, ambulances, and local police. Since the start of the summer, the beach-safety service in that area has handled 3,871 incidents.
Other regions are also reporting activity. In Camposoto, the Cruz Roja-managed lifeguard service has recorded hundreds of medical assistances and preventive actions. In Pájara, the municipality has introduced the SEABOB Rescue device at La Pared beach, utilizing electric technology to allow lifeguards to reach incidents faster and dive up to 40 meters deep.
