Spanish municipal social welfare initiatives

Overview

Spanish municipalities are implementing various programs and funding allocations to support senior citizens and vulnerable populations.

In late September 2026, local governments in Arganda del Rey and Belmez focused on thermalism programs for seniors. Arganda del Rey doubled its available spots for a program at the Balneario de Cofrentes, while Belmez opened applications for the IMSERSO Thermalism Program with administrative assistance from the local Social Welfare Department.

By late October 2026, municipal efforts expanded to include broader social welfare funding. Alcalá de Henares approved 55,200 euros in annual funding for entities supporting individuals with Alzheimer’s, autism, and those at risk of homelessness. In Alhama de Murcia, the ‘Al Compás’ project was launched to provide educational and social support for minors and families. Additionally, Segovia partnered with Cosocial to initiate the ‘Te acompañamos’ program, which utilizes volunteer-led home visits to address loneliness and provide respite for caregivers.

Further social support was announced in Albacete, where 17,000 euros were allocated to adapted sports for people with disabilities.
