Spanish National Health System council meeting disputes

Overview

The Spanish Ministry of Health canceled an extraordinary meeting of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System (CISNS) that was intended to discuss a draft royal decree regarding the regulation and standardization of the National Health System’s waiting list information system. This proposed regulation aimed to update existing decrees by calculating waiting times from the date of medical indication and including Primary Care delays.

Following this, the Community of Madrid requested the cancellation of a subsequent extraordinary CISNS meeting. Madrid’s Health Counselor, Fátima Matute, requested that the agenda—which included a draft royal decree regarding consent for the voluntary interruption of pregnancy—be moved to an ordinary session to allow for adequate preparation. Matute indicated that Madrid would not attend if the meeting proceeded under current conditions, citing concerns that frequent cancellations and reconvocations were “deteriorating the institutional respect required by the council.”
