Spanish People's Party political critiques

Borja Sémper, the national spokesperson for the People's Party (PP), has outlined a critical stance regarding Spain’s current political and institutional landscape.

Initially, Sémper addressed broad national challenges, including housing access, international policy, and what he described as “institutional deterioration.” While expressing a desire to unite the country, he noted that political forces might react hostily to necessary changes and criticized the government’s impact on judicial independence.

His critique subsequently sharpened toward specific political actors and the legislative timeline. Sémper announced that the PP no longer seeks dialogue with the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV), accusing the group of tying its future to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. He argued that the PNV’s alignment with the current government benefits the EH Bildu party rather than the Basque Country.

Furthermore, Sémper asserted that the current legislature has effectively ended, claiming that the timing of future general elections is being dictated by the “partisan interests and calculations” of Pedro Sánchez rather than the national interest. He also accused the administration of deflecting blame onto international actors to avoid responsibility for domestic crises.
