Spanish political conflict involving PSOE and PP
Overview
Political tensions in Spain have escalated between the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) and the People’s Party (PP) led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
In late August, the PSOE accused Feijóo of a “206 days of cover-up” regarding the indictment of Móstoles mayor Manuel Bautista for alleged sexual and workplace harassment. The PSOE criticized the PP leader for failing to take responsibility for the mayor’s actions.
By mid-September, the conflict moved to the Spanish Congress, where a PSOE proposal regarding Feijóo’s asset disclosures was rejected. The proposal, which sought more detailed information on Feijóo’s income and housing costs, had been revised by the Congress Board to remove direct personal references to comply with regulations. The motion was ultimately defeated by a coalition including the PP, Vox, PNV, and UPN.
