Spanish taxi and transport sector regulatory changes

In the Cádiz region of Spain, authorities have approved a moderate average increase of 6% in taxi tariffs, scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027. This adjustment, the first in a decade, is intended to offset rising operational costs such as fuel, maintenance, and insurance. Local officials noted that even with the increase, services in Cádiz are expected to remain among the most affordable in Andalusia and Spain.

In Chiclana, the local government is pursuing a plan to expand the taxi fleet, aiming to increase the number of licenses from 52 to 81 by 2030 through a staggered rollout. While the consumer organization FACUA Cádiz supports the expansion to reinforce service, it cautioned that fleet growth should not be the only solution for regional transportation needs.

Broadening the scope of transport policy in Spain, the Government of Aragon has also announced plans to strengthen regulations for Driver-Owned Vehicles (VTC) to increase legal certainty. This follows previous orders that resulted in over a thousand sanctioning proceedings and the immobilization of 25 vehicles.
