Spanish wildfire recovery and prevention efforts

Following devastating wildfire seasons in Spain, regional and international authorities have initiated various financial recovery and prevention programs.

In Castilla y León, the region is set to receive 32.7 million euros from the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) to address the impact of the third wave of forest fires from the summer of 2025. These funds are designated for emergency response costs, infrastructure repair, and the restoration of public services. Additionally, drought mitigation efforts in Segovia have provided water supplies and infrastructure funding for approximately thirty municipalities.

Other Spanish regions have also announced recovery measures. Extremadura is providing direct aid to tourism businesses in Las Hurdes affected by August fires, with compensations ranging from 1,200 to 7,500 euros. In Aragon, a 51-million-euro plan has been established following a summer where over 35,200 hectares burned. This includes 8.6 million euros for direct aid to farmers and small businesses, alongside 42 million euros dedicated to enhancing firefighting capabilities through new aircraft, vehicles, and increased personnel.
