Speeding enforcement and investigations in Spain

Overview

Authorities in Spain are investigating two drivers for alleged road safety crimes after they were caught traveling at extreme speeds on the RM-19 highway in Torre Pacheco. During a speed surveillance campaign conducted between August 3 and August 9, a patrol from the Cartagena Traffic Detachment detected vehicles traveling at 211 km/h and 202 km/h.

Both drivers were exceeding the generic speed limit of 100 km/h by more than double. Under Article 379.1 of the Penal Code, offenses involving excessive speeding can result in prison sentences ranging from 3 to 6 months, fines, or community service, in addition to the suspension of driving licenses for 1 to 4 years.
