Spyro: A Realm Beyond development and release details

Overview

Details have emerged regarding Spyro: A Realm Beyond, the next main entry in the Spyro series and the first original title in the franchise since 2008. Developed by Toys for Bob and published by Activision, the game is scheduled for a 2027 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, and Nintendo Switch 2.

A major gameplay shift includes the introduction of full flight mechanics. Unlike previous entries where the character was limited to gliding, Spyro will now be able to fly freely. Developers Paul Yan and Lou Studdert noted that this change allows for increased verticality in level design and larger, more expansive worlds to encourage exploration.

To celebrate the franchise's 28th anniversary and Spyro Community Day, Activision and Toys for Bob released new concept artwork of the Arcadian Vale region. This area is described as a vibrant, serene landscape featuring waterfalls, lush vegetation, and ancient stone monuments. The narrative follows Spyro as he attempts to find his way home while facing an invading force known as the Scavs. The game is slated for a Spring 2027 release.
