Sri Lanka aviation sector development
Overview
Sri Lanka’s aviation industry is expanding through increased training partnerships and new market entries. SriLankan Airlines has established itself as a regional training hub, recently completing a specialized Airbus A330 Line Flying Under Supervision programme for six senior examiner pilots from Etihad Airways. This initiative, supported by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) and the Ministry of Defence, utilized the airline’s fleet and instructors to provide professional development for international crew.
In addition to these training capabilities, the sector is seeing growth in commercial operations. Three startup airlines have formally submitted launch applications to the CAASL, which are currently under regulatory review. These applications detail intended routes and fleet configurations, following a rebound in tourism and economic recovery.
