Star Wars Reads literacy initiative

Overview

Disney and Lucasfilm Publishing launched ‘Star Wars Reads’ in October 2026, a month-long program intended to celebrate storytelling and promote literacy across various age groups.

To support educators in under-resourced communities, Disney Publishing partnered with the nonprofit First Book. This collaboration provides 500 eligible educators with $100 book gift certificates and a free ‘Star Wars Reads Educator Toolkit’. Furthermore, licensee Penguin Random House Children’s Books committed to donating books to First Book to improve access to Star Wars titles.

As the initiative progressed, Random House participated by donating Star Wars novels to Little Free Library locations throughout the United States. Featured titles included ‘Star Wars Outlaws: Low Red Moon’, ‘Star Wars: Legacy’, ‘Star Wars: The Mask of Fear’, and ‘Star Wars: Thrawn (The Manga), Volume 1’. Ahmed Best was named the official ambassador for the event.
