Stellantis operational and brand strategy
Overview
Stellantis has adopted a strategy of high component standardization to improve cost efficiency. The company utilizes shared technical architectures, such as the CMP platform, to apply identical parts—including exterior rearview mirrors—across at least 18 different vehicle models from brands like Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, and Jeep.
Following sales data from the first half of 2026, the company is also evaluating its brand portfolio. While passenger car registrations in the EU, UK, and EFTA regions increased by 5.3% to over 1 million units, the group’s market share saw a slight decline from 15.3% to 15.2%. Because a significant portion of European sales is driven by only three brands, Stellantis is considering restructuring options for niche brands such as Maserati, DS Automobiles, and Alfa Romeo.
CEO Antonio Filosa has identified a growing divide in the global automotive market, noting a split between the United States and the rest of the world. While the company relies on domestic engineering for the U.S. market—its primary profit driver—it is pursuing partnerships with Chinese automakers like Leapmotor and Dongfeng in other regions, including Europe, to provide affordable electric and range-extender vehicles.
These international collaborations face scrutiny in the U.S., where officials have criticized joint ventures with Chinese firms. Stellantis currently holds a 21 percent stake in Leapmotor and controls 51 percent of Leapmotor International, the joint venture managing sales and manufacturing outside of Greater China. Leapmotor International reported that “nine out of ten of its international customers would not have purchased a Stellantis brand vehicle without the partnership.”
