Stone-pelting incidents targeting transport in India

Overview

A series of stone-pelting incidents has been reported targeting vehicles and transport infrastructure in India.

On the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near the Ratlam border, miscreants targeted four cars, causing broken windows and windshields. Two to three passengers sustained minor injuries. This was noted as the second such attack on that stretch within ten days.

In a separate incident near Nagpur, the Nagpur-Mumbai CSMT Duronto Express (Train No. 12290) was targeted by stone-pelting near Borkhedi station on a Friday night. The impact shattered the windows of three coaches: A-1, B-2, and B-5. While some reports indicate no injuries, other accounts state that four passengers were hurt by flying glass shards. Passengers described the sound of the impact as being similar to ‘machine-gun fire’ and noted the incident occurred while they were in the middle of dinner, causing panic among travelers.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) teams have conducted searches in the Borkhedi-Sindhi section and surrounding villages, including Borkhedi and Brahmani. While official railway statements indicate that no passengers sustained injuries or losses, an offense has been registered against an unknown person under Section 153 of the Railways Act. Investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators, though no suspects or concrete evidence have been found yet.
