Student attacks on teachers in Brazil

Overview

In late August 2026, a 23-year-old private tutor, Vinícius Figueiredo, was stabbed approximately nine times by a student aged 14 or 15 during a session in Manaus, Brazil. The attack, which occurred at a private educational institution, was captured on security footage. Figueiredo was hospitalized in stable condition, and the suspect was placed in a socio-educational detention unit.

In September 2026, a similar incident occurred in Cametá, Pará, where a female student attacked a mathematics teacher, Bethânia Prestes, with a knife inside a public school. Security footage showed the student striking the teacher while she was grading exams. The teacher was taken to a regional hospital, and the teenager was apprehended by Military Police. Authorities in both cases are investigating the circumstances of the assaults involving minors.
