Student dormitory capacity expansion in Muğla

Overview

In Muğla, student housing capacity is undergoing a significant expansion for the 2026-2027 academic year. Following technical evaluations and the demolition of certain blocks due to earthquake performance analyses, the province increased its total dormitory capacity from 8,317 to 14,708, a rise of approximately 77%.

This expansion includes the opening of a new dormitory in the Menteşe district for 1,500 female students, bringing the total number of dormitories in the region from seven to 11. Additionally, a new facility in Bodrum with a 400-person capacity was 85% complete and expected to open in December 2026. Once fully operational, the total number of dormitories under the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Muğla is projected to reach 12, with a total capacity of 15,108.

As of September 2026, Muğla Governor Dr. İdris Akbıyık confirmed that the total capacity for student dormitories across the province has reached 15,000. During an inspection of the newly opened facilities, Akbıyık noted that the housing needs of applicants have been largely met and that infrastructure improvements, such as permanent solutions for internet and transportation, have been completed.

This expansion coincides with 2026 being declared the ‘Year of Youth’ in Muğla. In addition to student housing, the governor highlighted ongoing investments in youth and sports, including the completed Muğla Stadium, swimming pools, and sports fields, while noting that the student dormitory project in Bodrum remains ongoing.
