Student fatalities at Indian schools
Overview
Separate incidents of student fatalities at schools in India have been reported.
In Faridabad, Haryana, a Class 11 student died after falling from the third floor of Navodaya Vidya Niketan Senior Secondary School. The student’s father alleged the death followed severe punishment for eating biryani, claiming the student was made to stand in the sun and spent time in the Vice Principal’s office. School administration denied these claims, suggesting the student may have gone to the roof to use the restroom. Local police are investigating the circumstances and the validity of the allegations.
In the Ranga Reddy district of Telangana, a 9-year-old student died after falling from a staircase at a private school. CCTV footage reportedly showed the student losing her balance and striking her head. The victim’s family has alleged gross negligence, claiming a delay in notification prevented prompt medical intervention. School management denied these claims, stating they arranged transportation to a hospital as soon as the child began vomiting. Police are reviewing surveillance footage to determine the cause.
