In early September 2026, Sudanese Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Hassan Daoud Kayan met with Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin in Jakarta. The discussions focused on resuming military training cooperation, personnel and cadet exchanges, and capacity building through defense educational institutions. Minister Kayan highlighted the strategic partnership, stating that “everyone who is hostile to Indonesia is an enemy of Sudan, and Sudan's enemies are Indonesia's enemies.”

By mid-September 2026, Sudan extended similar security outreach to Niger. Following a telephone conversation between Sudanese Sovereignty Council President General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Nigerien President General Abdourahamane Tiani, officials met in Niamey to discuss addressing regional instability. The proposed cooperation aims to combat terrorism, weapon circulation, drug trafficking, and organized transnational crime through enhanced intelligence sharing and coordinated border management.
