Suriname diplomatic capacity and mobility expansion
Overview
Suriname is implementing a diplomatic strategy focused on capacity building, international mobility, and professionalization of its foreign service.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Cooperation Melvin Bouva has announced efforts to expand educational opportunities through scholarship agreements, such as a new deal with Morocco, and ongoing discussions with Ghana, the Netherlands, and Belgium. The government is also seeking to improve global mobility by easing visa procedures and negotiating new aviation and visa regimes with countries including Panama and Saudi Arabia.
To support these objectives, the Suriname Diplomaten Instituut (SDI) has installed a new Supervisory Board. Led by Chairman Robert Peneux, the board is tasked with overseeing the strategic direction and quality assurance of the institute. The goal is to transform the SDI into a comprehensive knowledge center that utilizes modern technology and artificial intelligence to train diplomats and consular staff.
