Structural cracks discovered in the main girders of the western Suurhoffbrug on the A15 highway have forced Rijkswaterstaat to implement emergency traffic measures. To maintain access to the Maasvlakte and the Port of Rotterdam, traffic heading in that direction has been diverted to the hard shoulder, which effectively halves the capacity of the bridge.

To mitigate the impact on the European logistics chain, authorities are investigating a temporary solution to redirect two-way traffic via the adjacent new Suurhoffbrug. While Rijkswaterstaat plans to complete a entirely new bridge by 2032, officials have noted that national funding gaps for infrastructure maintenance remain a challenge.
