Overview
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has raised allegations regarding the 2008 murder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and his associates. Majhi claims that reports from the Justice Naidu and Justice Mahapatra commissions were intentionally removed from public service buildings as part of a “well-planned conspiracy” to protect the perpetrators.
To address the disappearance of these documents, the Chief Minister has handed the investigation to the Odisha Crime Branch to determine if the loss resulted from negligence or deliberate removal. Majhi has criticized the previous Biju Janata Dal (BJD) administration, alleging that political appeasement and negligence contributed to the situation.
In addition to seeking justice, the Chief Minister announced several initiatives to honor the leader’s legacy. These include a Rs 13-crore grant for the Jaleshpata Ashram, the construction of a girls’ hostel, and the development of the leader’s ancestral village, Gurjang, into a ‘Heritage Village’.
