Swedish criminal network violence and sentencing

Legal proceedings regarding violent activities linked to Swedish criminal networks have resulted in multiple life sentences. In October 2026, the Svea Court of Appeal upheld a life sentence for Poya Shafie, a member of the Bronetwork and Foxtrot network, for his role in planning murders in Stockholm and Sundsvall to mark territory against rivals.

In a separate ruling, the Södertälje District Court sentenced Joel Engback, 30, and Isabell Eriksson, 34, to life imprisonment for a contract killing in Fornhöjden. The court described the October 2025 shooting, which killed an 18-year-old and injured another, as having the “character of an execution.” Prosecutors and the court indicated the pair had no personal connection to the victims and were likely recruited via the encrypted messaging app Signal for economic motives linked to criminal network conflicts.

It was noted that Eriksson was scheduled to begin serving a three-year sentence for a previous narcotics offense the day before the murder occurred, but she failed to report to authorities. Both defendants intend to appeal the verdict.
