Taiwan and China electrical product safety regulation

Regulatory authorities in Taiwan and China have introduced stricter safety certification and inspection standards for electrical consumer products, specifically targeting charging piles and mobile power banks.

In Taiwan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Standard Bureau implemented mandatory inspections for small household charging piles under 30kW to ensure safety and measurement accuracy, with plans to expand the scope to piles under 750kW by 2028. In China, the State Administration for Market Regulation released new implementation rules for lithium-ion batteries and power banks, emphasizing testing for risks such as crushing and puncture. All mobile power banks sold from April 1, 2027, must comply with these enhanced requirements.

Following these regulatory updates, Chinese authorities have moved into enforcement. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reported inconsistencies in motorcycle production regarding weight, emissions, and battery installation, leading to rectifications or certificate revocations. Additionally, investigations into power bank manufacturers revealed violations such as the use of fraudulent CCC marks and the distribution of products that failed thermal abuse safety tests, resulting in seizures, recalls, and fines.
