Taiwan financial market regulation and transparency
Overview
Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) has introduced new measures to regulate and increase transparency within the domestic stock market.
In August 2026, the FSC approved the use of sub-brokerage services for margin trading of US stocks. Scheduled for implementation in the second quarter of 2027, this regulation will cover approximately 930 US stocks and ETFs. To manage risks from market volatility and time zone differences, the margin limit is set at 50% with a maintenance margin requirement of 160%.
By September 2026, the FSC directed the Taiwan Stock Exchange and the Taipei Exchange to launch the ‘Taiwan Stock Market Dashboard’. This platform, which went online on September 23, 2026, centralizes financial data to enhance transparency. The dashboard allows investors to monitor systemic risks by tracking credit business information, such as margin maintenance rates, margin balances, and investor defaults, as well as corporate revenue trends.
