Taiwan Ministry of Education school support initiatives

Overview

The Taiwan Ministry of Education has launched several initiatives to enhance school environments and student support. In September 2024, the Executive Yuan approved a three-year plan to expand campus safety personnel in junior high schools. This program, running through July 2029, involves an annual investment of 1.2 billion TWD to increase safety staff from 620 to 2,000. The goal is to assist teachers with classroom conflicts, prevent bullying and drug abuse, and protect students during emergencies.

Following this, the Ministry announced plans to add 1,600 monthly-salaried special education assistants between the 2024 and 2027 academic years. This initiative aims to support inclusive education for students with disabilities in general classrooms. To bolster these efforts, the Ministry reported an increase of 1,235 qualified special education teachers for the 2024-2025 academic year and has provided financial incentives to local governments that meet specific teacher-to-student ratio targets.
