Taiwanese memorial ceremonies for fallen service members

Overview

In late August 2026, various organizations in Taiwan conducted memorial ceremonies during the Hungry Ghost Festival to honor deceased veterans. The Veterans Affairs Council hosted a regional service in Kaohsiung, while the Taipei Veterans General Hospital Hsinchu Branch held rituals to honor veterans who passed away at the facility.

By early September, local governments transitioned to holding Autumn Sacrifice ceremonies. In New Taipei City, officials held services at the Tamsui Martyrs' Shrine to honor those who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Similarly, in Chiayi City, ceremonies were held at the Chiayi Martyrs' Shrine to honor military martyrs and police officers who died in the line of duty.
