Tajik President Rahmon's Central Asia outreach

In late July 2026 President Emomali Rahmon embarked on a series of diplomatic visits across Central Asia to deepen Tajikistan’s economic and security ties. On 20 July he met Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam‑Osorin Uchral in Ulaanbaatar, where the two leaders outlined joint projects in hydropower, livestock farming, mining and organic agriculture, and announced a Joint Council of Entrepreneurs to facilitate investment and people‑to‑people exchanges.

A week later, Rahmon travelled to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. After attending the opening of the “Games of the Future 2026” in Astana and meeting President Kasym‑Jomart Tokayev, he proceeded to Cholpon‑Ata, Kyrgyzstan, to discuss regional security, transport and energy cooperation with Kyrgyz officials. The discussions built on the themes raised in Kazakhstan, emphasizing continued political dialogue and joint initiatives throughout the region.

Together, the visits illustrate Rahmon’s coordinated push to expand Tajikistan’s trade, energy and security partnerships with neighboring states, linking economic projects in Mongolia with broader regional cooperation in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
