Tamaulipas cross‑border mobility programs
Overview
In late July 2026 the Instituto Tamaulipeco para los Migrantes (ITM) began a community outreach tour in the El Mante area, promoting services such as dual‑nationality registration for children, visa‑reunification for seniors, and counseling to help migrants claim U.S. pensions and locate detained relatives. Local ejido committees agreed to act as liaisons, expanding awareness of these family‑support schemes.
A week later, the state’s Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) and the Labor and Social Welfare Secretariat announced a series of initiatives to broaden international opportunities for students, artists and professionals. These included cultural exchanges, employment fairs in three cities, and placement programs that have already sent nurses to Germany and teachers to the United States.
On 4 August 2026 the Secretaría del Trabajo y Previsión Social (STPS) reported that 6,906 workers had been placed in formal jobs, reaching 42.7 % of its annual target, and that more than 37,000 people had received occupational guidance and training. The agency highlighted expansion of maquiladora facilities in Matamoros and Río Bravo, and a job fair in Nuevo Laredo slated for 18 August. International labor mobility continued to grow, with eight nurses placed in Germany and a total of over 400 Tamaulipas professionals—including nurses, teachers and other specialists—sent abroad through partnerships in Germany, the United States and Spain. Together, these actions illustrate a coordinated effort by Tamaulipas institutions to expand cross‑border mobility for migrant families and the regional workforce.
