Tamaulipas electoral cycle preparations

Political preparations for the 2026–2027 electoral cycle in Tamaulipas have progressed toward logistical and budgetary planning. The Instituto Electoral de Tamaulipas (IETAM) is currently developing a budget draft for the concurrent elections, which will involve the renewal of 43 municipalities, the state congress, and eight federal deputies. The National Electoral Institute (INE) has indicated it may request additional funding to ensure adequate territorial coverage, noting that “democracy costs.”

While parties such as PAN, PVEM, PAZ, and PT have submitted formal intentions to participate, internal political shifts are occurring. Notably, Juan José Salazar Hernández has resigned from Movimiento Ciudadano in Tamaulipas due to internal issues.

In terms of party platforms and legal stances, the PVEM has proposed a pact to prevent candidates with criminal ties from running. Morena leaders have emphasized the need for organizational unity. Meanwhile, the PRI continues to express distrust toward the INE, though it has signaled confidence in local IETAM authorities. The PRI maintains its intent to file legal complaints regarding potential early campaigning and the misuse of social programs.
