Narendra Modi's 2026 outreach and diplomatic tour
Overview
In April 2026 Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a domestic outreach drive, campaigning in Coimbatore and joining Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on a two‑day tour of Tamil Nadu as part of the NDA’s election push.
In May the focus shifted abroad. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) organized visits to the United States and other Western capitals to counter rising criticism over minority‑rights allegations, while Modi embarked on a five‑nation tour of the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy, meeting heads of state and discussing energy, defence, AI, green hydrogen and investment.
Ahead of Modi’s Italy leg, the Indian embassy launched an “Incredible India” bus campaign in Rome and the Prime Minister’s visit culminated in a “Special Strategic Partnership” with Italy, signing MoUs on defence, AI, critical minerals and the India‑Middle‑East‑Europe Economic Corridor. A gift of Melody toffee sparked the viral “#Melodi” meme, prompting widespread social‑media buzz, a front‑page ad by Parle Products, and a cultural exchange featuring an Italian‑made Varanasi painting.
The partnership’s visibility persisted into June, when Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni revived the “Melodi” meme at the G7 summit in France, underscoring the growing diplomatic rapport between India and Italy.
